In the ever-evolving landscape of Indie Pop, some voices arrive with a quiet confidence, an artist not just singing about life, but shaping its narratives in ways that feel deeply familiar. Veronica Drozdowski is one such artist. The Polish-British singer-songwriter has been crafting music since she was 11, shaping melodies and lyrics into emotive snapshots of universal experiences. Her journey into music began with a simple yet profound realisation: she could do this.
“I would sing wherever I went,” Veronica shares. “But it wasn’t until I saved up for singing and guitar lessons that I knew this was something I really wanted to pursue.”
At just 13, Veronica took a leap of faith, stepping onto the stage of an open mic night, a defining moment that reshaped her confidence as an artist. Since then, she has been refining her sound, pulling inspiration from legends like Adele, Amy Winehouse, and Joni Mitchell, blending Indie Pop with soulful vocals and evocative storytelling.
Despite her young age, Veronica’s approach to songwriting feels seasoned, taking on perspectives beyond her own. “A lot of my songs aren’t based on personal experiences,” she explains. “I tap into the mindset of a character, whether inspired by a film, a book, or someone else’s story.”
Veronica’s career is already marked by significant achievements, from performing at Camden’s Green Note, a venue once graced by Amy Winehouse, to securing her place at The BRIT School, a prestigious institution shaping the next generation of musical talent. Last year, she released her first official single, 'Merry Go Round,' a moment that affirmed her position as an emerging artist with a voice worth listening to.
Her collaborations have also set her apart, none more meaningful than performing with Robin Banerjee, the original guitarist for Amy Winehouse. “She’s always been an inspiration to me, and playing my own songs as well as hers alongside Robin was unforgettable,” she recalls.
Veronica is gearing up for an exciting phase in her career, with the upcoming release of her song ‘Out’, which carries a powerful environmental message. “It speaks to how humanity is failing to take care of our planet,” she says, emphasizing her desire to use music as a vehicle for thought-provoking conversation.
Looking ahead, her dream is to carve out a meaningful space in the industry, whether as a performing artist or a songwriter working behind the scenes. “I want to write and release songs with other artists,” she shares, underscoring her passion for collaboration and storytelling.
For Veronica, music is about resonance. It’s not just about crafting songs, it’s about creating moments that listeners can see themselves in. “I don’t always write from personal experience, but I hope my music connects with people,” she says.
That connection was made tangible during a performance at just 14, when an audience member was so moved by her set that he gifted her one of his guitars, an instrument that remains one of her most treasured possessions.
As she balances life as both a student and an artist, Veronica embraces the journey ahead with poise. And if her artistry so far is anything to go by, she’s well on her way to leaving her mark on the industry, one song, one story, and one soul-stirring performance at a time.
