Molly J is one of London’s most exciting emerging voices in R&B Pop and R&Drill, an artist whose sound blends raw vocal soul with fearless genre experimentation. Born in France to Congolese parents, music has always been part of her DNA. Growing up in a family where everyone sang, she experienced music as connection first, moments of togetherness that created some of her most cherished memories. As she says, “My family has always been into music, and there’s no one that cannot sing... However, I am the only one who decided to pursue it as a career.”
That decision was shaped by the impact of legends. Listening to Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin left her in awe, inspiring her to begin imitating their voices as a child. The moment that shifted admiration into lifelong purpose came when she saw Alicia Keys performing, “Once I saw Alicia Keys on TV singing and playing the piano, it made me realise that’s what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.” From then on, music became a necessity.
Molly’s artistry thrives on cultural diversity and stylistic freedom. She describes herself as a “melting pot of culture,” with style that shifts depending on mood and comfort, and a sound rooted in R&B and Gospel vocals while drawing production influences across rock, jazz, EDM and beyond. “I call myself a Musical Chameleon for a reason haha,” she explains, exploring sounds without losing her emotional core.
Her ascent hasn’t been without its hardships. Like many artists forging independent paths, resilience has been a must, not a choice. “Rejection, rejection. Oh, and more rejection haha,” she says. “It made me quickly understand that this field is not for the weak minded... You have to grow a strong skin and ask yourself how bad you really want it.” That adversity shaped not only her perseverance but her values.

Molly’s current chapter feels especially charged with vulnerability. Her favourite project hasn’t even been released yet - a body of work completed only recently that pushes her honesty even further. “This is the most excited and nervous I’ve ever been because I’m taking my honesty to another level,” she admits. That personal leap feeds directly into her forthcoming album, which she describes as “Molly J up close and personal. The good, the bad and the ugly.”
As her career evolves, Molly envisions a refined yet bolder image and a sound enriched by travel and exploration. At her core, she hopes her music resonates - creating songs that heal, uplift and entertain without always needing to be heavy. “It doesn’t always have to be serious. We only have one life so let’s live it to the fullest,” she says.
Connection remains everything to her. She shies away from the word “fans,” preferring to refer to listeners as supporters - people walking alongside her journey rather than observing it from a distance. She wants them to see her not as something untouchable but human; “An honest human being who is figuring out this crazy thing called life.”
Early messages from listeners have already moved her deeply, from long-time supporters who promoted her music without expectation to women who’ve told her she inspired them to pursue their dreams. These moments reaffirm why she creates, “Being able to have such an impact at the very early stage of my career is the reason why I do what I do. I am the living proof that you can do it too.”
Behind the scenes, Molly is as hands-on as it gets. Her music is composed, written, produced and recorded by herself, with longtime friend and engineer Picky For Real elevating her sound through mixing and mastering - a collaboration she credits with taking her music to “another level.”
Unfiltered, honest, and musically fearless, Molly J stands as a powerful example of purpose-driven artistry. With her latest EP MDMA already out across all platforms and a deeply personal album on the horizon, she’s building a career defined not by trend-chasing but by emotional courage and creative integrity. As she puts it simply, “Thank you so much for these lovely questions. Make sure to stream my most recent EP MDMA available on all digital platforms.”
