Get to know Jack Hyphen on QH Sound

Jack Hyphen, the midlands-born, Manchester-based solo artist, has been making waves in the indie rock scene with his unique sound and introspective lyrics. His journey into music began at the age of 10, when he became obsessed with The Red Hot Chili Peppers' album "By the Way." "I forced my brother's mate to teach me some of the songs, and that's all I did, musically, for about 4 years," he recalls.

After a brief hiatus from music, Hyphen returned with a renewed passion, realising he couldn't live without it. "I packed it in (a few months before covid, but we can talk about that later) and released my debut EP, as Jack Hyphen, to a sold-out crowd at Sacred Trinity Church in Salford," he says. "Since then, I've been making more music and trying my best to play as much as possible."

The COVID-19 pandemic presented a significant challenge, but Jack turned it into an opportunity. "At one point, I was isolated in my bedroom for 28 days. So, I decided to write and self-produce an EP,," he explains. The standout track, "Rarity," is a testament to his resilience and creativity in the face of adversity.

Hyphen's style and sound are a unique blend of alternative rock, indie pop, indie rock, and melodic acoustic influences. "I never really set out to make a song that 'sounds like xyz,'" he says. "The songs go on their own journey in the writing process, I never know what it'll be like until I play it with a band."

Drawing inspiration from personal experiences, universal truths, and social commentary, Hyphen's lyrics resonate with audiences on a profound level. "A lot of my music is introspective but also aligning with universal truths, and what is going on in the world while I am writing a song definitely seeps in," he explains.

Proud moments in his career include his self-produced EP "Second Wave," securing a slot at Camper Calling, and supporting James Walsh (Starsailor). His song "Happiness" stands out as a turning point in his artistic vision and production quality.

Looking ahead, Hyphen is working on a new EP and hopes to become financially self-sufficient through his music. He aspires for his songs to resonate with audiences on a personal level, allowing them to find their own meanings in his universal truths.

With his unique sound, introspective lyrics, and unwavering passion for music, Jack Hyphen is definitely worth your attention.
