Get to know Brooke Dawn on QH Sound

Brooke Dawn emerges as a refreshing counterpoint in an era where pop music often races for the loudest beat or the flashiest hook. A young singer-songwriter weaving introspective lyrics and dreamy folk-pop melodies into something that feels entirely new. With the release of her debut single, “Brighter Than the Sun,” Brooke steps confidently into the spotlight, offering music that feels, in her words, “like a warm hug.”

But this isn’t just another feel-good pop debut. Behind her soft vocals is a story of self-acceptance, resilience, and a journey rooted deeply in family, creativity, and the quiet confidence of someone who’s learned to trust their own voice.

Brooke’s musical journey began before she could even fully pronounce the word “melody.” Surrounded by a musical family, “my mum on drums, my aunt on vocals and my uncle on guitar”, Brooke found herself immersed in the live music scene of her hometown by the age of five. “I would go to their gigs at our local pubs to watch them play,” she recalls fondly. Her grandfather and great-uncles played guitar, and that sense of inherited rhythm clearly runs in her veins.

Her love for music only deepened over time. From early vocal lessons at age seven to performing Do Re Mi at her first recital in a church, Brooke recalls a childhood of songwriting and joining “all and any kind of musical activity, club or organisation to help progress my skill.”

Despite her early passion, Brooke’s path wasn’t without emotional hurdles. “The biggest challenge for me has been learning to appreciate my own music and originality rather than being my own worst critic,” she confides. The fear of not being “perfect” kept her music hidden from the world for years. But the turning point came when she left traditional schooling and enrolled in a music college.“I entered a whole new world of expression and creativity that slowly brought out these parts of me,”

Brooke describes her music as “easy listening and lighthearted, like a warm hug,” a blend of folk and subtle pop. Her influences range from the breathy intimacy of Billie Eilish to the belts of Christina Aguilera.

What sets her apart? According to Brooke, it’s all about the words: “My writing focuses on the lyricism and how I can mirror these emotions through my voice.” That intention is clear in her debut Brighter Than the Sun.

Though just stepping onto the professional stage, Brooke has already achieved what many artists only dream of, performing at The Royal Albert Hall as a finalist in the prestigious Future Makers young songwriters competition. “To be chosen as one of the finalists out of hundreds of applicants felt spectacular!” she beams.

Now, she’s building on that momentum. Brooke recently sold out a venue in Brighton for her debut single’s release celebration, and this summer she’s set to play The Isle of Wight Festival on June 20th and Concorde 2 in Brighton on June 18th.

Brooke Dawn is not chasing trends, she’s crafting stories. With Brighter Than the Sun, she’s lighting the way not just for herself, but for listeners who might need a little light of their own.

As Brooke puts it: “My main aim when writing is to make the audience feel what I am feeling.” With music like this, it’s safe to say she’s already succeeding.
