Alex Kate, a former classical vocalist whose path once pointed to opera houses but now shared through synth-laced indie pop that feels both grand and intimate. Her songs are guided by vulnerability and upheld by a deep sense of purpose, Alex is crafting a sound that turns personal evolution into something almost mythical.
“I grew up surrounded by music and started singing from a young age,” Alex shares. “I trained classically and was originally on track to become an opera singer.” That future seemed certain until the quiet undoing of confidence led her to press pause on music altogether. But then came the global stillness of 2020. While many grappled with uncertainty, Alex found clarity. “It felt like waking up from a dream and realizing it was time to start living it.”
Alex Kate embraces vulnerability, writing songs that weave joy through raw emotion. “I fuse deep themes with joyful, sometimes theatrical production. I’m not afraid to mix the playful with the profound.” Whether it’s the whimsical shimmer of soon to be released single “Summer Suit” or her introspective orchestral EP, the balance between light and dark is intentional. Her music may be laced with glitter, but the stories beneath it are real.
In fact, it was the pressure of juggling jobs, performances, and creation that nearly cost her everything. “In June 2023, I became unwell from the stress... That was a turning point. I had to shift from a mindset of pressure to one of gratitude, reminding myself that I get to do this.” That shift reframed her purpose. More than visibility or virality, Alex is after something deeper: resonance.
And she’s already feeling it. When she released “Lost soldier” with MOBI1, she was stunned by the influx of vulnerable responses. “I had so many men reach out asking for help and I was able to sign post them to either MOBI1 or professional help. This floored me.” It’s these moments, where songs spark courage, that remind her why she does this. “Music is how I process the world - it’s how I connect with people, and how I feel joy and healing.”
Her creative process mirrors that same emotional curiosity. And while personal experience grounds her songwriting, she doesn’t shy away from digging into philosophy, theology, or even a well-timed conversation. “I love that moment when a phrase clicks and suddenly an entire song pours out of it.”
This approach has already borne fruit; four independent EPs and now a debut album taking shape, led by the liberating single “Summer Suit.” Created in a single session with Mitch Parks and Ivey, the track arrived “so organically” and encapsulated a new lightness for her. It’s not just about embracing warmth, it’s about liberation. “It also carries a deeper message of self-acceptance and freedom.”
As for what’s next, Alex Kate isn’t slowing down. “I have eight more tracks from my debut album coming out over the next six months!” With headline shows in London and Bristol, and a July 4th video release, her world is only expanding.
Authenticity remains her compass. “I want to be a voice that people can trust, that helps them feel seen, and that reminds them they’re allowed to be their full, beautiful selves.” There’s a modern mystique to Alex, call it a “floaty dress collection,” call it “modern-day Kate Bush meets Florence Welch” - but the essence remains the same: her music is an embrace, a mirror, a hand to hold.
