PR: Where is my baby? by Sheykh Forever

Where is my baby? by Sheykh Forever

Sheykh Forever is a factory for infectious earworms from somewhere between yesteryear and the distant future. Its writer, producer and principal performer, Iraqi-born Mostafa Al, fuses disco, heavy rock and hypnagogic indie pop—all slathered with a fat dose of booty-bouncing funk. After last year’s anti-war epic ‘Run for cover’ came the bilious ‘Sleeping dogs’, a vintage funk victory lap lauded by Dave Franklin as “originality, freshness, eclecticism, groove, and a feeling of sonic adventurousness.”

‘Where is my baby?’ sees the experimental pop addict foray into something harder and more

immediate. A racing, adrenal, paranoid thumper of a track, ‘Where is my baby?’ throttles between the sweat-streaked drum anthems of Massive Attack, Yves Tumor and Andy Stott, ultimately settling on something impassioned and unique. The bandleader’s latest collaboration with KER puts her signature ethereal pleas right in the centre. Her lament is clear: who will listen to those who have nothing left to lose?

With a devotion to the world of analog, Mostafa Al recorded the song entirely at home, tirelessly remixing and perfecting sounds through masses of vintage hardware. He is preparing a full-length album for later this year.
