Nigerian singer-songwriter and producer Sam Sun is recognised for making relatable music, combining carefully curated melodies with gripping emotional lyrics. Sam describes his sound as “a blend of traditional Pop elements with acoustic indie alternative vibe” to be compared to the likes of Jeremy Zucker in terms style and vocal approach.
The latest single ‘Survived’ by Sam Sun is a song that depicts the comfort, reassurance and embrace of having good friends and loved ones around you at your lowest.
When asked what was the inspiration behind ‘Survived’, Sam Sun told us: “I was at my lowest state one time, depressed and tired and I had a close friend around to put off that raging flame with words of comfort and their sense of presence when I was alone was enough to see me through. I wrote the lyrics based on my life event but in such a relatable way that anyone can relate to.”
Sam Suns debut “Save Me” released in 2017 was nominated at the Top Naija Music Awards for the category of best single. Sam furthered into mash-up contents, covering and blending hit songs together in a unique, creative and entertaining fashion.
“Remember When” released in 2020 and "When I Was 18" off his "Not Sad Anymore" EP brought limelight to Sam Sun. From crossing 2 million streams with "Remember When", appearing on BBC London, charted on Shazam, gaining international recognition on Culture Custodian, East Mojo, Pulse Nigeria and many more. These are significant achievement for a fairly new artist.
In 2022, Sam released a 4 song EP ‘Not Sad Anymore’ which was premiered on BBC Radio London, The Beat FM London, featured on Reprezent Radio ‘The Fat Steve Show’ and multiple Apple Music editorial playlists.
