London’s Sophiz is a voice shaped by culture, emotion and lived experience. Her journey into music didn’t come from a musical household, but from something deeper: heritage, community and the kind of family environments where music isn’t a hobby, it’s a heartbeat. “My parents aren’t musicians, but I’ve always been surrounded by the spirit of music,” she says. Her Italian grandmother’s singing left a lasting imprint, while on her Mauritian side, “music is just part of the culture, everyone sings or plays instruments.” Growing up in that atmosphere made music feel like a natural extension of who she was becoming.

What began as a private outlet slowly transformed into something bigger. “I was just singing to express myself and to release my emotions,” she explains. But as people around her started recognising her talent, and after receiving an unexpected scholarship, everything changed. She realised she wasn’t just expressing herself; she was connecting with others. “I felt a strong desire to perfect my craft to develop that language that sometimes words alone can’t express. I wanted to reach people’s souls, to make them feel something real.”

Today, Sophiz’s music sits between pop and soul, but she refuses to be boxed in. “My music is very guided by life experiences and emotions... I enjoy letting the emotion of the song lead the direction rather than limiting myself to just one sound.” Her multicultural background naturally colours her creativity, and she sees that as one of her strengths. “My music comes from real emotions and real-life experiences... I also come from a multicultural background, which naturally brings different influences into my music and into the way I see the world.”

Her creative process is instinctive and fluid. Sometimes it starts with thoughts scribbled on paper, other times a melody arrives the moment she hears a beat. She’s also developing her songwriting further, excited by the idea of bringing her “spice” to other artists’ projects.

Her inspirations come from two places: the music she grew up with and the life she’s lived. “I love life and all the different moments it brings: the highs, the lows, the lessons and the beauty in everyday things.” Those experiences become the heart of her songs.

And her milestones reflect a career already rich with experience. She’s worked as a backing vocalist for icons like Lionel Richie and Andrea Bocelli, moments she describes as unforgettable. She was nominated for the UK JBL Shortlist 2025 as an international artist, and performing her own song at DJ AG’s private event was a personal highlight. But the milestone she values most is internal: “Step by step... I’ve been building more self-belief.” For someone who has battled feelings of not being enough, learning to trust her own voice has been transformative. “When you start believing in yourself more, everything else grows faster too.”

Her upcoming single, “Red Lipstick,” releasing on 20th March, is a world she’s eager for listeners to step into. “The song is about that inner strength that can sometimes take the shape of an alter ego,” she explains. It’s about accessing the powerful version of yourself.. the one that rises when life demands it.

Looking ahead, she promises “good music and meaningful experiences,” inviting listeners into stories and emotions that resonate deeply. She hopes her music becomes a place where people feel understood, where they can “reflect, feel and even heal.” And behind the scenes, she maintains balance by protecting her energy: “For me, it’s about setting boundaries and creating moments to recharge.”

On April 21st at Soul Mama, Sophiz brings her voice, her story and her emotional honesty to the Unsigned Showcase launch event. She arrives as an artist shaped by culture, resilience and a deep desire to connect. Someone who sings not just to be heard, but to make others feel seen. Her journey is still unfolding, but her presence is already unmistakable.
