Get to know: Minzie - Where Moody Melodies Meet Midnight Emotion

Some artists arrive with noise, others arrive with presence. Minzie's music doesn’t demand attention - it earns it. Quietly pulling you into her world of moody, atmospheric Dark R&B. It’s the kind of sound that feels like a private moment, something you stumble into and instantly recognise.
But before the streams, there was a little girl singing ballads from Barbie and Disney movies to her mother. “Music has always been something I’m into. I used to watch a lot of Barbie and Disney as a kid which always had at least one ballad that I would practice and sing for my mother.” School, church, anywhere she could stretch her voice. Eventually, she realised she didn’t just want to sing stories. She wanted to tell her own.
Minzie’s sound is unmistakable, “moody, atmospheric, melodic, and kind of haunting in a way.” It’s the type of music that feels like a slow exhale after a long day, or the soundtrack to a drive you take just to clear your head. She calls it Dark R&B, but the influences run far wider than the genre suggests. “People might not know that I draw my inspiration from a range of genres rather than the bigger names in Dark RNB. A lot of inspiration comes from folk music, choir arrangements and trance music.”
That eclecticism is part of what sets her apart. The other part? Synergy. “I feel like there are so many elements that come into play in a Minzie song, and one thing being out of balance would kind of throw the whole song off.” Her music layered and sculpted - Every harmony, every pocket of space, every haunting echo is intentional.
Even her challenges have shaped that precision. “I also have poor health and it takes a lot of time away from me, but also forces me to take time to think about what I want to release, and makes every move intentional.” That intention can be heard in every track.

Despite being shy in front of the camera and selective with live shows, Minzie’s presence online is magnetic. Her fans have pushed her music into seven-figure territory. “Towards the end of last year, I had four songs hit 1M streams on Spotify around the same time which was insane to me.”
Her EP COLOURS still earns her messages “every other day,” and her current favourite track, One More Night, is a perfect snapshot of her sonic identity: “creepy atmosphere, electric guitar, and the way my voice sits on the track… I love it.”
On April 21st, at the Unsigned Showcase launch event at Soul Mama, the community will get something precious: a rare chance to experience Minzie live. For an artist who admits, “I don’t really do live shows,” this performance is more than a set, it’s an unveiling.
Her fans will finally see the woman behind the haunting harmonies. The artist who says, “I hope that my audience finds little pieces of themselves in my music and I hope that it helps them find comfort in whatever emotion they’re feeling.”
And for Minzie, who often battles pushback and self-doubt, the love she receives from listeners is transformative. “Every listen, every message, every emotion given to me by people who don’t even know me genuinely makes me feel untouchable.”
Minzie's sound is distinct, her vision is intentional, and her universe is expanding with every release. She’s the kind of artist who doesn’t need to shout to be heard; the music does the talking, and it speaks in shadows, textures, and truth.
On April 21st, she steps out of the dark and onto the Soul Mama stage. You’ll want to be there when she does.
