Matilda Grace didn’t just arrive, she exploded onto the scene. Her debut single, Not Your Ex Yet... shot straight to the top of the Unsigned Top 10 Singles Chart, and it’s easy to see why. With her punchy lyrics, raw delivery, and pop-rock edge, she’s the kind of artist you feel like you already know and want to know more about.

She’s been building up to this moment since she was barely old enough to hold a mic. “I have been singing since I was 3 or 4 and have been obsessed with it as soon as I started,” she says. Growing up, Matilda threw herself into anything musical - choirs, school musicals, private lessons and started turning her homemade songs into real demos at just 14. By 16, she was chasing the dream full force, moving to London to train at Arts Ed and LAMDA, two of the UK’s top theatre schools.

That theatre background hasn’t just given her stage presence, it’s given her fearlessness. Still, releasing her first single was a leap. “I was constantly putting off the release, waiting for ‘something’,” she admits. “Until I realised I am only going to learn by just jumping in the deep end and trying to swim once I’m there.”

What sets Matilda apart isn’t just her voice. Her lyrics are brutally honest, often funny, and always real. “I write punchy, truthful songs with occasionally humorous lyrics due to the sheer honesty,” she explains. Influenced by pop-rock and shaped by the sounds of 70s and 80s rock bands, she’s crafted a sound that balances attitude and vulnerability, with comparisons already being made to Olivia Rodrigo, Lily Allen, Blondie, and even The Killers. But make no mistake, Matilda is doing her own thing.

That individuality extends to how she writes. Her process starts with a feeling, a lyric, or even a half-written poem in her notes app. “The most random experiences in my life give me ideas for songs,” she says. “Whether it be relationships, friendships or observations of other people.” She collaborates with producers to turn these raw ideas into polished tracks, but the bones of the songs always come from her.

While her first single caught fire online, Matilda’s real-world presence is just as powerful. Her first headline show at The Troubadour sold out! Something she still can’t quite believe. “It was one of the best nights for me as an artist, surrounded by friends and family that were singing my songs back to me.” She’s also been longlisted for Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent competition, a major moment for any new artist.

And yet, she’s just getting started. This year, she’s releasing a full EP, with each track unveiling more of her sonic identity. Though she’s keeping titles under wraps, she says each new song becomes a new favourite. “The song I wrote today, for example, is stuck in my head - but tomorrow a new song will be.”

Her fans are already connecting deeply with her music. “When I get messages from people saying they resonate with a song or it made them smile, it makes the whole thing worth it,” she says. Recently, she even sent out 15 signed posters to fans who’ve supported her since day one - a small gesture that speaks volumes about her gratitude and groundedness.

Matilda Grace isn’t here to play it safe. She’s here to say what she means, sing it loud, and give pop-rock the burst of personality it’s been waiting for. And judging by the way things are going, “Not Your Ex Yet...” is just the beginning.
