Get to know: JULIET - Authentic, Fearless and Unfiltered

Get to know JULIET on QH Sound

Emerging from Norwich with a sound that fuses R&B and spoken word, JULIET is fast becoming one of the most compelling new voices in the UK’s alt-soul scene, not just for her genre-blending sound, but for her fearless honesty.

For JULIET, music has always been more than an art form, it’s a lifeline. “I grew up in Southeast London on a council estate... ever since I was little, I’ve been a creative - whether that was dance, acting or singing, I was doing it,” she shares. Her first song came from grief: a tribute to her nanny at just five years old. “I wrote her a song and sang it at her funeral.” That moment, equal parts heartbreaking and beautiful, planted the seed for a lifelong creative journey.

After moving from London to Norfolk, JULIET threw herself into performance - musical theatre, dance, professional pantomime - all before finishing school. But her story is far from a fairytale. She speaks candidly about the pain that shaped her voice: surviving bullying, sexual assault, and years of emotional recovery. “These experiences led to me finding spoken word years later, after having all these big feelings and experiences to talk about, but not knowing how,” she says. “It shaped me in the most beautiful way as I am now an advocate for sexual assault and try to educate the younger generation on this topic too.”

It’s this fearless honesty that defines JULIET’s artistry. Her work is emotional without being indulgent; empowering without being cliche performative. “My artistry comes from the heart,” she explains. “I’ve either seen it, felt it, or been close to somebody that has gone through it.”

Trying to pin JULIET to one genre misses the point entirely. “I find it quite hard to describe the style of my sound,” she admits. “I don’t like sticking to one genre because when I write, I’m writing from my heart, not to fill a box.”

That authenticity shines through whether she’s delivering an intimate spoken word piece or an R&B-infused anthem. “I really love blending spoken word/rap with hooks and melodies,” she adds. A fusion that gives her work both grit and grace.

Her debut single ‘Manifester’ (2023) captured that essence perfectly. “I originally wrote it on my bed as a message to myself. I was feeling quite lost at the time and I really wanted to channel that into something positive - a reminder to myself to stay humble and to keep working hard,” she recalls. That track became her launchpad, setting the tone for an artist whose vulnerability doubles as strength.

Despite having “no management, no label, no team, no money, just pure will and determination,” JULIET’s milestones speak volumes. She’s performed at Latitude Festival for four consecutive years, won Best Solo Artist nationally out of Access Creative College, and took the stage at the Norwich Christmas Light Switch-On in front of her biggest audience yet.

But the moments that mean the most to her aren’t always the biggest stages. She recalls performing her spoken word piece ‘Bound’ at the Royal Norfolk Show, where a man - “presenting as quite a masculine builder” - approached her in tears. “He told me how much that song comforted him and how much he related to the lyrics,” she says. “We shared a hug and some tears. It was the most beautiful, genuine experience that made me feel so real.”

It’s these deeply human exchanges that define who JULIET is, not just as an artist, but as a storyteller. “I hope my songs give people some comfort,” she says. “For people to know that life is full of ups and downs and that is so OK. You can go through something so traumatic or sad or feel like there is no way out, but there is.”

If there’s one thing JULIET wants her listeners to know, it’s that she’s real - flaws, lisp, monobrow and all. “I get a lot of comments on my mono brow which quite frankly, if I ever shaved, I would feel naked,” she laughs. “And often people like to pick out that I have a lisp - I can confirm I do and it ain’t going anywhere.”

That raw authenticity extends to her performances, where her connection with the crowd sets her apart. “Something really special about me is my live performances. I love engaging with the crowd - it’s a feeling like nothing else,” she says. “What you see is what you get with me. I live and breathe this - it isn’t just a day job.”

The Norwich-based artist is now in a period of creative evolution. Working closely with London producer Finn, she’s crafting a new four-track EP slated for late 2026, with her latest single following the high-energy success of For The Night’. “Every single person I have shown this song to has cried, but in a good emotional way,” she reveals. “Now that is a beautiful feeling for an artist to have.”

JULIET is also building her own home studio, literally from the ground up. “I am currently in the process of turning my loft into a recording studio,” she shares. “It will be a creative space where I can write, record, rehearse live performances, and invite other creatives.” She’s also eyeing a UK tour, driven by her goal of “building my fan base, widening my exposure, and making this dream a reality.”

Beyond the music, JULIET’s mission is clear: empowerment through authenticity. “I want to be a positive role model that I craved for so much when I was growing up,” she says. “I want [girls] to see that you don’t have to change your body to fit the stereotypes of our society - that you are beautiful in your own skin.”

In a world that often rewards perfection, JULIET’s unfiltered approach feels revolutionary. Her music doesn’t shy away from pain, it transforms it. And as she continues to rise, one thing’s for sure: JULIET isn’t here to fit the mold. She’s here to break it.

“I’ve been focused on this since 2020, I’ve reached my five-year mark and this feels really special,” she reflects. “I remember starting college in 2020 and writing out my five-year goals, and I can proudly say I have done so much more than that version could’ve even imagined.”

With that level of drive, heart, and honesty - the best chapters of JULIET’s story are still being written.
